DIGITAL ART AGAINST AIDS COMPETITION 2006
RESULTS & PRIZE PRESENTATION CEREMONY

SINGAPORE, 06 January 2007 – Action for AIDS, Singapore (AfA) is pleased to announce the winners of the national Digital Art Against AIDS 2006 competition.

This competition is one of AfA’s key events in their calendar of outreach and educational events. Art Against AIDS uses art to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and encourages community participation in HIV/AIDS prevention in Singapore – particularly among the youth.

For the first time, the competition covered 4 categories: digital photography, animation, video and graphic design. Participants were encouraged to make a strong statement – and visual impact – about HIV/AIDS by creating their own original digital media works.

All winners of the competition will be honoured at a prize presentation ceremony at The Hereen Shopping Mall on Saturday, 6 January 2007 at 2pm. The winning works will be displayed at the event. Winners will receive prizes donated by I-Shop by Club 21, Objectifs and NTUC Income as well as trophies from AfA.

Theatre Awards 2005; Dawn Teo, Director and Founder of Objectifs, a visual arts centre for photography and filmmaking; and A/Prof Roy Chan, President of Action for AIDS.

Said A/Prof Roy Chan: “Since it first began in 1996, Art Against AIDS has received strong support from community leaders, local and international companies and prominent politicians. The use of digital imagery underscores our need to use the most current technology to scale up HIV education and outreach.”

“This year’s Digital Art Against AIDS attracted about 150 entries. It was a wonderful response from the public and the judges had their work cut out for them to select the winners. The winning works will be exhibited or broadcast at various venues over the year, including The National Library, The Hereen and Eastpoint Mall. The pieces will also be used in AfA campaigns to communicate HIV/AIDS prevention messages." said the Chairman of the Art Against AIDS organising committee, Mr Prashant Somosundram.
