AfA Code of Conduct for Volunteers/Members /Staff:

As an Action for AIDS volunteer/member/staff, I undertake to follow the Code of Conduct:

1. I will hold all information pertaining to HIV-positive individuals and sensitive information in relation to AfA and communities we work with in the strictest confidence.
2. I will not, in any way through my actions and words, discriminate against HIV-infected individuals and others who may be at risk for HIV infection, including men-who-have sex with men, sex workers and drug users.
3. I will treat all individuals that I interact with in my capacity as a Volunteer/Member/Staff with respect and equality, regardless of their background, e.g. HIV status, sexuality, ethnicity, nationality, gender, age, socio-economic status.
4. I will not impose my religious or other personal beliefs on individuals I interact with in my capacity as a Volunteer/Member/Staff.
5. I will conduct myself in a professional manner, and will not engage in any inappropriate, romantic or sexual relationship with clients I interact with in my capacity as a Volunteer/Member/Staff.
6. I will endeavour to provide accurate, reliable information that is based on scientific and medical research in relation to HIV/AIDS, and will avoid giving information that is not evidence based.
7. I will offer comprehensive information and advice about HIV prevention, including safe sex, condom usage and harm reduction.
8. I will not communicate with the media on issues pertaining to Action for AIDS without first informing and obtaining clearance from the appropriate Executive Committee or staff member.
9. I will not engage in unsafe sexual or other high risk practices or any other behaviour which may cause harm to me, my partners or to the reputation of AfA.
