Project Streetwalker

Volunteer Recruitment for Project Street Walker (PSW) 2005

Project Street Walker is a programme to increase the awareness of STI/HIV among the freelance, street-based sex workers. Through the programme, we hope to educate the sex workers about safer sex behaviour in order to reduce and control the spread of STI/HIV in this target group and the community at large and to encourage the use of condoms as a preventive measure against infection.

Due to the nature of the work of the target group, volunteers are needed for distribute educational materials at designated areas (Geylang, Orchard Towers, Changi and Desker Road). The time slots for the distribution is as follows:

9pm to 12am9pm to 12am5pm to 8pm11pm to 2am
GeylangOrchard TowersDesker RoadChangi Village

Nature of Volunteerism

Volunteers will go to the designated areas in pairs to distribute educational materials consisting of condoms and brochures to the streetwalkers on the Friday and Saturday nights. The frequency of duty will e fortnightly (if enough volunteers are recruited, that is). Transport allowance will be given to the volunteers.

What is needed from the Volunteer

  • Brave, kind souls
  • Commitment and dedication
  • Practice confidentiality
  • Not moralistic or judgmental
  • Not embarrassed to talk about sex

Volunteers are required to attend some training sessions.

Because of the sensitivity of the programme, not all who apply will be recruited.

Volunteers will need to fill a form and have a short chat with the Coordinator.

If you are interested to volunteer for this project, or to find out more about this programme, please email to Jonathan Chua at psw@afa.org.sg.
